Chapter Five
Myka got the nod from Gee to open the doors. Excitement bubbled inside her. She really
hoped the pack members liked what she’d done to the place. People filed in, and she stepped out of their way.
Gazes darted back and forth as they took in the new look. Smiles and sounds of appreciation filled the room. It made her feel good. Her gaze met Gee’s across the bar, and he put a coin in the jukebox. It was one of the few pieces of equipment she’d kept because she liked the style of the neon swirling around the outside. Of course, she had found a company to update the music choices.
She’d talked to Gee about the money—well, as much as one can talk to Gee with his limited answers. He refused to take any of the payment back. She watched as he took in the scene. A slight smile teased at the corners of his lips.
The place was packed. Kaden mixed drinks with whirlwind speed while Paul delivered them to various tables. If this place stayed hopping like this, Gee would have to hire more staff.
“So, you’re the lady?”
Myka spun around at the sound of the deep baritone voice. He was tall, slender, but built like a runner. Black hair fell to his shoulders, and an even darker set of eyes met hers. “What lady would that be?”
He smiled, revealing a dimple in his left cheek. “The lady who did all this.” He gestured to everything around them.
“Guilty.” He wasn’t bad-looking. His strong jaw and high cheekbones hinted at a Native
American heritage.
“I’m Roderick.” He held out his hand in greeting.
Myka peered down at his offered hand. Dark hair dusted his forearm, revealed by the rolled-up sleeve of his button-down shirt. She reached out and shook it. “Myka.”
“Beautiful name for a beautiful lady.”
And he was flirting. Too bad she wasn’t interested.

“Will you dance with me, Myka?”
What the hell? She looked over at the bar and noticed Kaden glancing her way. Hopefully, her dancing with Roderick would keep his attention. He wanted her to move on? Well, time to see if she could change his mind.
“Sure.” She smiled and let him lead her on to the dance floor.
